I hope the field of computer science never loses its sense of fun.... What you know about computing other people will learn. Don’t feel as if the key to successful computing is only in your hands. What’s in your hands I think and hope is intelligence: the ability to see the machine as more than when you were first led up to it, that you can make it more. Alan J. Perlis
About This Quote

I hope the field of computer science never loses its sense of fun. Because if it does, all of us will be stuck in a world where computers are boring. Computers didn’t always seem like toys to me. I saw them as tools that people could use to solve problems, like making beautiful music or creating pictures.

But now I think about computers as toys, and our future depends on getting them right. So I say to computer scientists, don’t fool yourselves into thinking that the key to successful computing is only in your hands. What’s in your hands is intelligence: the ability to see the machine as more than when you were first led up to it, that you can make it more.
